COUNTRYFILE | Nick Baker introduces us to one of the UK’s rarest ant species: the narrow-headed ant. From a windowsill in his living room, nestled in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, he has achieved a groundbreaking milestone - becoming the first person to successfully breed this species in captivity, offering new hope in the fight against its extinction.

COUNTRYFILE | Adam Henson is in the Cairngorms National Park to find out about the UK’s most endangered birds: the western capercaillie. He joins a team of dedicated conservationists working hard to protect these elusive birds from disturbance during the leadup to their lekking (breeding) season - an event vital to the species’ survival.

COUNTRYFILE | Matt Baker visits Welney Wetland Centre in Norfolk for World Wetlands Day, joining a vital winter count of the magnificent whooper and Bewick’s swans. It’s a race against time to record the birds at their roost before they take flight to feed.

SPRINGWATCH | During Springwatch 2024 at the RSPB’s Arne Nature Reserve, a dramatic series of events were captured on the reed bunting nest camera: two different species of predatory reptile targeting the same nest in succession. Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan unpacked this remarkable and rarely seen footage during one of the live broadcasts.

TURTLE ISLAND | This short film documents the conservation efforts of Wildlife Sense in securing a future for sea turtles in the Mediterranean. Just 1 in 1,000 turtle hatchlings will reach adulthood, so learn how these dedicated volunteers are helping to increase the odds.

FOR THE LOVE OF BIRDS | Invasive species are one of the greatest threats to the Galapagos ecosystem. 80% of the land birds that live on these precious islands are found nowhere else on earth. Over half of these birds are threatened (in some cases to the point of extinction) by a foreign parasite the size of a common housefly. This is the story of this ecological crisis, from the pioneering team trying to save them.

WINTER REFUGE | Discover the animals that seek refuge within caves during the most challenging season of the year. We shine a light on some of the weird creatures sharing the dark and uncover the fascinating adaptations they have evolved in these unique environments.
